Why are some people still offended by Page 3 girls after all these years? I'm heterosexual and I think good luck to them. If I had the looks I'd do modelling.

I don't know of any women who HAVE to do this kind of thing.
It's not only 'dirty old men' as you put it look at page 3, women also do. And how does it degrade you? I take your a woman. How does it degrade women like Jo Brand & Gloria Hunniford? How did harm women like Sharon Osbourne and Cherie Blair? Most of the top 'girlie' magazines are now run by women.

Apparently they did have page 3 guys (or something similar) but women weren't interested.

I don't care about the Page 3 girls, they are pretty girls, but the only thing that is wrong with Page 3 is that in The Sun they have a little bit at the bottom called "News in Briefs", where the Page 3 girl expresses her 'opinions'. Here is an example: Nikki, 20, fom Croydon says; "Forestgate has exposed the incompetence of the police force, and Sir Ian Blair. I think it is time Sir Blair resigns."
LOL, as if this woman knows jack about Forestgate, she'd be working in government if she was that smart!

I'm not offended by Page 3 girls. I don't think anyone these days is "offended", I think there have always been pictures of sexy women and there always will be.
But hey - this is the 21st century. Isn't it time we admitted that women have sex drives too? That people are all different, not all men like the same thing and not all women do.
I don't think Julie was having a "feminist rant", I think she was expressing her views. It IS true that pornography of any kind contributes to the way women are viewed in society. It CAN be harmful to some people. I am not saying it is wrong. But lets have a look at the whole issue, not just hide behind the received ideas.
The same tired arguments come out every time - feminists don't understand or are jealous. Maybe. But that is just one part of the debate. There is more to it. We don't talk about it because we are afraid to.
I am interested in more equality between the sexes. That is my only objection to Page 3 Girls. When are we going to have Page 3 Boys?

I would say there are a few, quite different sources of opposition:
PURITANS
Most likely elderly people or people with strong religious beliefs (Islam for example) who think it is dirty and wrong and should not be encouraged.
FEMINISTS
People (and not just women) who think that page three is a degradation of women, and shows that the only way for women to be successful is to be sexualised and ogled at by men.
MINOR
There are also several minor sources of opposition to page three, that are not really major and do not incense anyone:
- wives who don't like their husbands looking at other women
- people who think it is all a bit tacky and tabloid
- jelousy from girls who want to be on page three
In general I would say that the reasons for opposition are very similar to the reasons for opposing pornography, but page three comes up for such criticism because it is in the most popular newspaper in the country that is seen by millions of people a day.

HAve you seen how much some of these women get paid? And I don't think that any Page 3 Girls are forced into doing that type of modelling...if you got it, flaunt it!
It's the women that are brought into the UK and sold into the sex trade that I'd be more concerned about.

I agree with you. There are some that think that is a fine line between page 3 and pornography & exploitation of women stuff. A bit of jealously mixed in for good measure too i guess. Maybe because it conflicts with serious news stories too that some people find is wrong. I must admit there is some irony in that.

People like Jordan i admire, she has made millions from modelling. Men (not generalising i know not all men are the same) like to look at beautiful women, and women like Jordan cash in on this and get rich, good on em. i know some women that dont like page three because it makes them feel inferior (i had a friend who would not let her partner read THE SUN). then there are some women who believe that by 'selling' their bodies they are undermining women and the struggle we have gone through over the generations to prove and gain equality. there are arguments for and against, and both are valid but thats the joy of living in a society which allows (to a certain degree) individuality.

IThese girls are posing, showing their assets to men who want a cheap thrill. Bare breasts will almost always illicit the same response from men. It's simple cheap sexual gratification. It's not "fun" or "innocent". Men will always react to a visual cue like this in the same way. It's in our nature and it's not gonna change. If I had a friend who did this, I could not look her in the eye. Sorry. I'm male and I've seen the reactions men have when they talk about page 3. Ladies, please don't try it. You won't get proper respect.

To be honest, Page 3 girls don't bother me one way or another. If a woman has a beautiful figure, and is happy to be photographed topless, then I don't see a problem with it - good luck to them.

Bless you for your honesty. Ignore Julies' feminist rant above. If men weren't cursed with a strong sex urge, there would be nothing for women to exploit for money. Nor, in all the other ways that women manipulate men.
The male sex urge is a terrible thing to have to control every minute of every day. So any respite is welcome.
Feminists do not want to understand that it is the men that are being exploited. Who receives the money and who pays the money?
I have to say though that it is a little like giving a meal to a starving man and then telling him that he is not allowed to eat it.
Good look to them anyway for exploiting their charms.
