the dictionary says it is a prescribed form of worship, presumably a form of worship that fits the individual or the need. I call it a prayer or chant or mantra in everyday speech. It sounds pretty to say and know what you mean when saying it, but try it three times fast...it sounds like either "up santa" or "a percent-uh" definitely not the right thing to say when talking to people with a heavy accent or dialect.
