Yes, a name, the meaning, whether or not the person knows the meaning, it does become part of them. A name (the meaning) becomes part of a person's core personality or traits. The dont have to know the meaning- I stress.
On a cellular level, they own their name.

In the sense that they can't be forced to change it, they do. But they can change it if they want to. You don't own the copyright, however, because many other people will share your name.
I think that to suggest that it is part of them is personalising it too much. It identifies and represents them. You would still be the same person even if you had a different name.
So, don't lets read too much into it.

nah, how can you own something you can't hold in your hand? that's like saying we 'own' the air in our house.
it's part of your legal identity, but if you never needed to identify yourself you wouldn't need a piece of paper with your name on it. think about living in a cave or something, in a community where everyone knows everyone else - you might not even know how to spell your name! and probably, you wouldn't care. it's not important.
and if you think your name's special, try googling it and see what you find. i found someone with the same first AND surname as me!!

Well, people are given their names so they must own them. It's not like life that God gives and takes. Though I don't believe in God.

Depends on their name. But yep its their name. But some have more common names than others. I think it strange if i tried to call myself anything else from what i have been called.

Ones name is ones identification. It is part of one. Nobody can 'borrow' anothers name without a repercussion.

Only in a legal sense.
Otherwise it's just a derivative identity from an ancestor.
