Good question.
First biotechnology is essentially the use of bacteria or yeast or products of these living organism like enzymes for the use or production of drugs. It has many other applications like alternating certain bacteria to be able to eat and degrade oil spills, for instance. Over the past 2-3 decades we have made tremedulous strides in understanding the mechanisms of cells. In the process, we have developed new technology to be able to manipulate cellular function. For instance, mass producing strands of DNA, being able to insert these code sequences into bacterium dna, forcing the bacterium to make these codes into proteins which benefit the whole of society.
What is the difference between the pharmaceuticals and biotech. In general pharmaceutical companies make medications by chemical reaction.
Biology is a must. It provides the foundation for later studies. Yes high school biology can be a drag. ( i always hated learning about different plant reproduction or different dinosaur era or evolution.) But stick with it cause. The courses become more advanced when you go to college.

Any technique that uses living organisms, or parts of organisms, to make or modify products, improve plants or animals, or to develop microorganisms for specific uses.
Physics, Chemistry and Maths are the subjects required at + 2 level for B. Tech. Biology is optional. Also you have to clear an entrance examination.

Most high school students go to college & sign student loans without really comprehending what they're getting into. There should be a class on "how not to get screwed over in the real world". Which includes basic things like understanding bank statements & what not. They should also teach something useful in Physical Education like CPR or what to do in case of seizures or heart attacks.

hi
Biotechnology is basically a mixture of many intersting fields...
Most of the fields in this are interdisciplinary
like biochem, biophy, microbiology etc.
basics in Biology are required to study biotech..
But it mostly depends on where you stay...
Like here, in Andhra Pradesh, where i stay, Even if you have taken Biology in class 11 and 12, You still cant apply for biotech courses.
Here, they take in only Math Phy Chem students, who havent touched biology in 11th and 12th !!
So, if you have taken bio, it will definitely help.
I myself studied Math Bio Phy and Chem, and i am looking currently for a biotech seat somewhere here.....
Best of Luck...
