Here is a very good procedure to follow in order to get your own adorably cute avatar!
here's how to change your avatar:
--click mail
--click the avatar picture twice
--from here, you have a number of different things you can do.
A LITTLE SECRET:
if you look under places like halloween, and stuff under holidays, you can find pink hair, green hair, butterflies, cool backgrounds, wings, unicrons, and so much more! so don't just skim the top...really look at the different tabs & sections!!
