Most home-based routers use what is called "NAT" technology (Network Address Translation). NAT hides your PC by providing it with a localized, private IP address (usually in the 192.168.x.x range).
While this is good enough to protect you from most incoming attacks, it does not monitor outgoing traffic. In other words, you can still download viruses, trojans, worms, and spyware. The content is not blocked because you initiated the download. Once a trojan or worm gets on your PC, it too will open up communication to the internet. These connections aren't blocked by your router because it thinks you're doing it.
Therefore, a 3rd-party firewall program should also be used to block these types of connections...

While it's better than no firewall, I'd do more. The most effective security solution would be layers of security. Like Ogres & Onions, security has LAYERS:
Layer 1: Your wireless router/firewall
Layer 2: a software firewall (XP, Black Ice, others)
Layer 3: being aware of what you are doing. don't click on things that don't look legit. Nothing looks legit.

I Have a wireless router and I know it sucks! to keep it up and protected. But I've found as long as the computers on the network have a firewall themselves, your safe. Your best bet is to use spy-ware or ad-ware blockers to stop the pop-up browsers. As long as you have a WEP or WPA on, most hakers will just pass on. Why go through the trouble?

in case you be attentive to how, disconnect the router out of your workstation, submit a password on your router(verify with the producer of your router), Kick him off, get a clean ISP, or tell him he might desire to pay area of your information superhighway bill. And sure, he can get admission to any of your documents. you additionally must get Norton Anti-virus or Norton information superhighway protection. they're going to inform you whilst he tries to connect.
