You are still long enough to think things through and decide what you are going to do next or just to unwind.

A messy bathroom? Well, you know how to keep that from happening, so pay attention.
As for "clearing your head," the other posters have all made excellent observations. I can but add that the change in oxygen ions that accompanies the spray of the water to fill the tub - and better still, in a shower - has a positive effect on your body. It affects brain functions and stimulates thought. It also has a physiologically soothing effect.

Physiologically, a bath increases bloodflow and relaxes the muscles, which may have some beneficial effect on mental processes.
Beyond this, our faith in bathing is historical. Though it fell into general disuse during the European Middle Ages, baths and bath houses were important parts of Ancient Greek and Roman culture -- the architectural remains of some great bath houses can still be seen in many parts of Europe. Ancient medicine -- which relied on a theory of bodily fluids called "humors" -- accepted bathing for its medicinal and curative properties. Bathing is also culturally important to many parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Some historical figures have had small obsessions with bathing, most notably Napoleon Bonaparte, a great French military conqueror who eventually become Emperor of France. His bath tub was carried on every expedition, and he would often soak in it before battles or to encourage thought. Many of his contemporaries shared this habit, including the revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat, who was actually stabbed to death while lying in a bathtub.
If bathing of itself doesn't relax you, try adding aromatherapy oils, bubbling solution, or salts. You can also try raising the temperature.
Good luck!

Because a warm bath relaxes the mind and body. Normally, when we have our bath, all we feel like doing is lie there and relax. So, in the process, we just feel and know that somehow it clears our mind. :)

Absolutely, but so does a shower. Bath for me helps the aches. No books or authors in the tub!

Its probably because it makes you relax. Try putting fresh ginger in the bath next time for a better effect.
