make a factor tree

start with 100 at the top

draw two lines from100 and find what you can multiply together to get 100

so you have
....100
..../...\
...2...50

so you have 2 which is prime and you have 50 that is composite

....100
..../...\
...2...50
......./...\
......25..2

so now you have another 2 which is prime so finish the chart

....100
..../...\
...2...50
......./...\
......25..2
...../...\
....5....5

so now you have 2, 2, 5, 5,

so its 2^2*5^2

4*25=100

there ya go check ya later ♥

start with 100 decide what number you can divide it by
you should come up with 10 * 10.
then for each of the 10's you do the same.
You get 5*2 and5*2. both 5 and 2 are prime numbers (neither one can be evenly divided by any number except one. You can rearrange the numbers to5*5*2*2, so the prime factorization is 5^2 * 2^2 or 5raised to the second power times 2 raised to the second power. hope this helps you

ok, what you do, is take out the highest prime number you can
then the next, till you're left with only primes.

lets see if this comes out:
100
5 20
---5 4
-----2 2
so your prime factorization is 5x5x2x2 which equals 100
you consider 2 a prime cause it cant be factored into anything smaller

K is right and i want to add that
u only have to check that
number smaller than sqrt(n) (n = 100 in ur case) = 10
which indicated that no prime factor is bigger than 10 for n =100

since when n is bigger, let's say 1000 is would be troublesome to every number and which also give a indicator how far you should go.

This is what they mean...

200
2 · 50
2 · 25
5 · 5

So.. 5·5·2·2

Its easy to start to divide by 2's, and as the number gets smaller, you can work with it
