All right, this particular question has been hanging over my head for the longest.

Compared to other foreign news I have seen over the past years including BBC, CCTV (China) and FujiTv (Japan), the U.S. media in particular puts a strong emphasis on American point of views, politics, culture, and self absorbing promotion of Democracy on a daily basis, even though the U.S. accuses other countries of acting nationalistic or ethnocentric in the same way. Not too many distinct non-American viewpoints are presented in the US local or mainstream media. What is the reason for this?

What I have noticed is a strong presence of overt patriotism in most the major mainstream as well as local news networks concerning International cooperation, development, UN meetings and foreign policy.

This question is not meant to be anti-American or "left wing" bias as some would suggest upon seeing it. And a long diatribe on Freedom of Speech won't be needed to explain any reasoning for this question

Yes, because people are ethnocentric - an extension of our natural self-centeredness. After living in another country these four years, I've discovered how ethnocentric the media is in this country. Furthermore, when I go back to read or watch U.S. news programs, I can see/hear the ethnocentrism. Oh, one other thing - everyone always accuses everyone else of having a nationalistic/ethnocentric media because the accuser is naturally ethnocentric.

Sorry to say, there are very few truly non-ethnocentric, completely unbiased, utterly objective individuals out there, despite claims to the contrary. I just live with it.

Yes, but I also see it in other countries medias, even if not as much, it is still there, but the good thing with the Internet is: you can read cnn, fox news, bbc, and other foreign news sites and make up your own mind about what is right and wrong. We are no longer locked down to what your local paper has to say. The breakthrough of blogs has also made a major impact, allowing regular people to report what they believe is the truth. Being an American, I would have to say I myself would probably have the same bias and not even recognize it during debates.
