Things that are loud and aggressive can be intimidating. What's more intimidating: a cuddly lap dog or a pit bull?

I like heavy metal, rock...but the underground is an exception. For me, the lyrics of a song is a number one key, for it to be rated. A rocker who sings "Starry starry night" while rocking hard is not good enough, and a heavy rocker who blasphemes in his song is worst. The music is okay, the way they play, and how they bring out the best of their souls...the only thing I don't like about black metal and other underground metal are the very "intimidating" lyrics. If you know what I mean..

People don't know anything about it except that it's "scarry". If they'd shut up, turn off the [c]rap and pop, learn a little music theory and actually LISTEN to metal they'd realise how good it is.
As for the lyrics being freaky, since when has anyone understood them without
I'll admit that the gravely voice is an aquired taste but like you said there's plenty of metal without it. And isn't [c]rap and pop an aquired taste?

It's the same reason some people don't like rap, or country, or any other genre. They don't open their minds to what they're listening to. Not to mention, most people only listen to a particular form of music just because they like the style and attitude. If you were to take one look at me, you would never have guessed my favorite band.

I don't think it is intimidation. I think it would be that the music has a complete lack of talent. Hands down.
