ok, so i'm a scene-kid and somebody called me an emo kid, and i totally freaked out, and then i realized they were like somewhat right.
ok, so to clarify, any one can be seen as being emo. just because i dress emo people say i'm emo, just because i seem like i am emo, people say it is so. even when i didnt dress "Emo"/"Scene"/"Goth" everybody though i was.
so to clarify further... emo can be anything from someone who prefers an emotional music genre, or even other music genre's scoping into hardcore, post hardcore, emo hardcore, power-pop, pop, R&B, goth, emo, scene, acoustic, blues, ect.
also scoping into several clothing styles, such as tight pants, band t's, tightly fitted hoodies, camoflaughe, hats, bandanas, convers, vans. black clothing, western shirts, ect. the fact is almost any clothing can be seen as being "EMO"
hairstyles, and makup choices also effect this stuff, like wearing black eyeliner, having an "emo" haircut. tatoos, and such. carrying a bookbag with buttons all over it...
the fact is its all emo, but nobdy ever really knows what "emo" is.
even attitudes, and to clarify, emo kids arnt just haters, they can be people who feel hated.
some things emo kids like to do is: hug, yes, we love hugging!! writing peotry, playing instruments, reading, writing, skating, hanging with friends, (yes we have friends). listening to music, being self expressive, ect.
so yea, emo is a broad concept.. i'll write more if i think of it, but this is it for now.. basically you could be emo and never even know it!

Glasses? I've never seen an Emo band with glasses.
Depressed kids are goth, not Emo. The listeners are more likely to have listened to REM, the Cranberries, Susanne Vega, the Cure and 10,000 Maniacs if they lived in the '80s. Their clothing even kind of matches what those bands wore. In fact the music kind of matches closer to those bands than punk (which is now called Death Metal).
1. The singer must have a whiny voice and sing the ole' woe is me lyrics. The blues and some country songs and folk songs from last century are like that, but you don't hear about cutting from those styles.
2. Generally they lyrics have an atmosphere such as a time or a place where something is happening.
3. It's rock, but it's defently the lyrics over the musics. You aren't going to air guitar with any of these bands.
