I think it's time to abolish the electoral college. Right now everything breaks down into "red states" and "blue states." If you live in a 90% red state, you can forget about any presidential candidates taking an interest--you're already in the bank for the Republicans. And if you're a blue voter living in that red state, you're effectively disenfranchised... so why bother getting involved at all?
I think a direct election would get a lot more people involved and interested. I'd have a reason to come out to the polls, and if I managed to influence just one of my neighbors, I know that would make a difference in the outcome of the election.
I still vote, by the way, even if it doesn't count in the end. But I'd rather that it did!

Eliminate Political advertisements and base the electoral process on the TV Show, "American Idol". Candidates will be forced to talk about the real issues and be judged by there responses in real time.

Eliminate political parties all together so that each candidate has to stand on there own agenda with no party affiliations.

Impose term limits on every political office at every level of government, including the judicial branch. So nobody is able to create a life long career out of it and is motivated to accomplish the most things in the shortest amount of time.

I'm sure I could think of more intelligent approaches, but I'm exhausted.

The three things we need to do to improve the American political system are these:

1. We need campaign finance reform. We need to get the graft, the cronyism and the big money out of there.

2. We need lobbyist reform. 90% of the lobbyists in this country do not work for big money corporations who throw money around surreptitiously. Yet the graft and ethics violations of the bigger players and hired guns is destroying the process through excessive spending and money laundering.

3. We need younger people to stand up to that system and start running for state and local offices to groom for kicking the baby boomers out of Washington. They have been there too long and it's time for a change.

Better chose another President...I think more authoritative and clever from all point of view. Remember Linkoln, Jefferson, Roosvelt, even Klinton!!! But Bush...sorry..poor americans

Return to our Constitution by eliminating crapped up programs and taxes to pay for them. Return rights to the states and local communities.
