This may sound like "acorn"y answer but the road to finding a cure for poison oak is a "bumpy" one. Wait, 'scratch that', maybe there is hope. Maybe someone studying at one of those "Ivy" league school's is working on it right now. In the mean time, if you get the itchy urge, don't scratch just "Sumac" the area a few times with a fly swatter.

The rash is caused by an allergic reaction to the sap. If you come in contact with the plant You can take a antihistamine to minimize the effect (as long as it is safe for you to take antihistamines like benadryl, which has an oral and topical solution)
remove and wash any clothing immediately or as soon as possible, then wash the area, and don't scratch the area. For relief if a rash develops try an oatmeal or Epsom salt bath.

The prospects are spotty at best. Doctors seem to be allergic to research in this area. But once someone starts looking for a cure, enthusiasm will be infectious.
