Most high schools teach Shakespeare. I learned Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummers Night Dream, and Taming of the Shrew. Because of time we only learned the shortened versions. I went on and read them myself later.
We did see the movie Romeo & Juliet starring Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting. My favorite version.

North American high schools do TEACH the fundamentals of Shakespearean literature. But the percentage that actually learns the material has sadly decreased down to under 1%, no thanks to our apathetic youth. Romeo & Juliet and Othello are a large portion of the curriculum in high school english courses.

yes we do learn about shakespeare in american high school im learn ning about when he was born what awards and recognitions he got when he died his contributions to the humanities and the art we just finished reading romeo and juliet it a very good and interesting book

I'm from Malaysia and in High School I do learned some of them such as Macbeth, Othello, Romeo & Juliet, and some of his Sonnet too...

Yes, the previous answerer had it right, but 11th grade (age 16ish) is typically American literature--no Shakespeare!
