Metallica was founded by Lars Ulrich(drummer)in 1981.The name was thought of by Ron Quintana,a producer associate of Lars.
James Hetfield joined next (singer/guitar).
Dave Mustaine (Lead guitar).
Ron McGovney (bass).
During their debut tour (no albums yet), they had to get rid of Dave Mustaine for being a cantancerous asshole, thinking he was the leader or something.
So it was recommended that Kirk Hammett should be the new guitarist.
Ron McGovney was not really interested in becoming a pro bassist and was replaced by Cliff Burton(Bass)
1983-Metallica released "Kill 'em all".
Ozzy Osbourne took them under his wing-
and the rest is History!

Dave got kicked out for his heroin problems.
He is now married with a good looking wife and he has quit the dope.
He has converted to christianity and is finishing up his last contract with his band megadeth.
Kirk hammet replaced mustaine after he was kicked out.
And almost all of the songs on there album ride the lightning
were composed by dave but metallica kept them and now kirk plays them.
