Personality , enviroment and past experience.

Experience will mean that a group of people will all make a different decision when faced with a dilemma, and this will be based on what has happened to them so far in their life, and what their personality is like,.. are they afraid of change or do they enjoy a challenge or a scare etc. perhaps they tried jumping over a gap before and they fell in or maybe they feel confident in their ability to jump a long way. Belief comes into it too .. are they religious? if so they will consider things from that point of view morals may not come into it they might just be scared of going to hell. Are they a member of a close group? if they are they may make the jump to save a family member and that decision they would not make if they didnt care ..... so are they emotionally attatched .... it goes on and on

Choices we make distinguish us and those choices are based on all the above
