Those are all the reasons I could come up with, I think the least reasonable for a system of laws would be the second one, but it still has validity to a point. What the government SHOULD do is take all the people who have earned the death penalty, put them in a giant stadium, throw in one knife or similar and tell them that the last man or woman surviving with have all their crimes removed from their record, then charge that person with the murders they comitted while in the stadium and put them back in jail. That would solve a few problems, economic ones anyhow.

like the first said! read the bible! and eye for an eye(i think that's from the bible. Noah's ark...why was the flood caused again? and what would the flood have done to all the bad people? soddam and gramor or how ever their spelled...even god says the death penalty is on if theres no other way.

To make people that are thinking about murdering aware that if they're caught, the chances are that they'll receive the death penalty, thus some of them may think twice before actually committing the murder.

i think they want a punsihment so bad that it will try and prevent others from doing it, which is to answer your question- to reduce crime. just incase you wanted my oppinnion i totaly disagree with it because it's like playing God, a life for a life does't balance things out to me- like ghandi says ' an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'

that how i feel WHY, you are trying to end the crime rates, you believe in peace, no more violence. Then why are you solving it with the same solution. that is not right. It is not right at all. The person that broke the family heart of the one life they took away. Their family feels the same way.

5. to dispose of the bad seeds. We live in a society, we have rules to live by, if you choose not to live by the rules you should be eliminated from the system, like a dandelion from a beautiful lawn.
