Well one of the reasons why is probably because it is more of a personal reward. The way you feel about yourself after you complete something like that. So in a way, performing a life saving surgery, compared to just acting in a movie, will seem more important.

I don't know the answer and wish I did. I just wanted to say I completely agree with you! My best friend is a RN and deserves way more than she's paid. You nurses work SO hard and like you said, save lives, unlike actresses, etc! Something's wrong with that picture and I wish I could change it for ya'll! You're worth way more than those "entertainers", success isn't weighed by money, it's the good you do for others! If I had a choice, I'd rather be you than Julia Roberts! Keep doing what you're doing, you're awesome!

I agree that it is disgustingly unfair, the way that celebrities are so grossly overpaid, while the people who make a real difference aren't paid nearly enough. I guess that our society values celebrity above all else right now, and the magazine sales, movie sales and sporting event ticket sales prove it. I guess the corporate bigwigs that pay celebrity salaries believe that the monetary return that they get from the celebrities involvements in their projects is worth paying them the vast amounts that they do...it's an unjust world we live in...but take solace in the fact that for every successful actor/sport player there are countless others struggling from paycheck to paycheck.

because we live in a mostly capitalistic society and entertainers and sports stars are in demand and the supply of good athletes and actors/actresses is low. Its the same reason doctors get so much money so stop complaining you earn way too much as is, im sorry you wont be able to buy that third beamer this year but oh well...

I wish I knew why our society is stupid enough to do that. And doctors make a lot of money compared to teachers for instance, and both professions really ought to be among the highest paid.
(Some might say that they make a lot of money selling movies and CD's and stuff, but with high medical costs *someone's* gotta be making money there too.)

I've often wondered this myself, it doesn't seem fair. All the schooling, work, stress, time and yet we struggle. I don't know, but to me, celebrities are nothing. I admire the everyday worker over a celebrity anyday.

because we the normal people buy the tickets for gigs, the latest cd's and DVDs and all the other merchandise from the celebs. unfortunately, doctors and nurses don't sell us their latest CD, and vary rarely do the live show.

i know what you mean... Grown men get paid millions of dollars for throwing a ball around while teachers, firefighters, and nurses have to struggle to pay their bills... something is not right...

Its the same deal with teachers. Teachers help us in learning EVERYTHING we know and yet they have one of the lowest pay.
