Because after traveling to several nations around the world I have discovered that there are no poor people in America. There are only people with less than others.
Everyone in America has the opportunity to make good choices and gain wealth.

So your saying that if America is so bad how can welfare recipients afford to get fat.
They get given money to cover their basic needs to survive, but the government doesn't spend it for them, they in the end chose the distrubution of the money for themselves. They can chose to buy the high fat, low nutrition value food, which is usually the easiest and perhaps in some cases cheapest. In summation; they don't get fat because they are supplied with an abudence of money to buy food, they just make poor dietry choices and probably do little exercise.
That said, what would i know about American Welfare, i am an Australian.
I should add that food is also an escapism, a small pleasure they can afford in often depressing circumstances, this is a majpr cause of wieght problems

It's also the lifestyle that makes people fat not just the food, amny people on welfare as it typically goes smoke and drink and lack exercise, when u can't find a job life becomes hard and depression sets in adn so all they wanna do is mope around and try and waste away the rest of thier day until their next welfare check. i am not making an excuse for them or say they are all like that but that's just another reason why weight gain can set in. Also, usually unhealthy food is cheap to buy and so that's probably why they can seem to afford that kind of food because buying vegetables and fruit and other healthy stuff is alot more expensive. so think carefully about all the reasons behind your question before you make pressumptions.

some are... many aren't... in fact many of those in poverty are not on welfare and you can only be on welfare for so long...
This sounds like one of those "I saw one in a supermarket one time" questions that really have no base in reality or what poverty is actually like...
But those in poverty in America are probably better off than those in poverty in other nations... but that doesn't mean we should just stop trying and everything is ok...
I do know a lot of fat rich people though? Maybe they should actually do a little work every now and then?
aman: why don't we take a walk through a few neighborhoods in memphis I know of... granted, they aren't the poorest in the world, but it sure is not good..

Because unhealthy food is cheap. Leisure time (which would permit one to exercise, grow a vegetable garden, or to cook healthier meals at home) is expensive. Health care and gym memberships are also expensive.
Also, minorities form a disproportionate segment of America's poor, and people of some backgrounds are not genetically adapted to a high-carb Western diet--that's why obesity and diabetes are higher among Pacific Islanders, for example.
There's also the problem of depression and self-esteem--if you're in poverty and dependent on welfare or working a minimum wage job, it's hard to become invested in really taking care of yourself. That takes a lot of self love. Emotional eating is a factor for a lot of people, regardless of income.

Well some reasons:
comparing to the other nations of the world Americans live a better life, those in poverty too have a good standard of living.
for instance a poor American spends about say $15 per day and thats equal to weekly expenditure of poor people in other countries. Take Nigeria, Africa and some chinese parts..

Its Not Bad, but The Goverment gives people on welfare our money, and they dont bother getting a job. These people I knew there parents didnt get married just so they could stay on welfare.

Can you just mysteriously look at people and know they're poor because of your biult-in psychic poor people detector?
Seriously, that is a very crude stereotype. Maybe you should look for all of the overweight rich people too - trust me, they exist.
If you can think of a rational reason for your observations or a study of some sort to prove it, please tell us - but for now, it sounds like you're just being bigoted. remember, everyone has health problems, but obese peoples' health problems are just more visible to everyone else. Do we make fun of people who have to breathe through a tube because they smoked for 30 years?
Maybe you should stop looking down at people and start realizing that people are people, no matter how big or small.

cheep food is packed full of things that make you fat for example High fructose corn syrup. You can say that they can buy fruits and vegetables but when they only get a certain amount of money to feed there family they are going to get what they want and what will fill them up for a cheaper price. Programs like WIC help better because instead of giving a set price it gives a list of food choices that are healthy and taste good. I know that it makes a lot of people mad when they see people buying junk food with food stamps, but other people buy it and who's to say who deserves it and who doesn't

Because, for the most part, bad food is cheap. If you're poor, you can't afford to buy fresh produce at all, and the only fresh meat readily available is beef, which is the worst for you. Otherwise, there's processed meat, which is even worse for you.
