yesterday (4 days before my period was due) I had a pinkish discharge and abdominal cramping (stronger on the lower left side). I thought it was implantation bleeding as I am trying to conceive for 6 months now, but I had a home pregnancy test the very next day and it turned out negative.
I learned ovulation can have similar symptoms including breast tenderness and soreness.
I also have very regular periods of 28 days, could all this be symptoms of late ovulation and not pregnancy?

It is almost never possible to ovulate 4 days before your period. It *is*, however, possible to ovulate 4 days before your period was *due*. Those are 2 very different things. If ovulation is delayed, it could occur at almost any time. Your period will then follow *at its normal time*, that is about 2 weeks *after ovulation*. Even if you *did* ovulate 4 days before your actual period, you would be infertile because it takes a fertilized egg (zygote) about a week or longer to get to the uterus and start implanting. By the time it got there, there wouldn't be a place to implant anymore--your period would have started.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a pregnancy test *won't* show as positive until at least 2 days after implantation. It takes a while for the newly-implanted zygote to start producing HCG, and then longer for it to spill over from your blood into your urine. Wait another day or two, and you may very well have some good news!!

Professional mother is right. You can't ovulate 4 days before your period, but you can ovulate 4 days before you expect your period.

If you suspect it was ovulation, wait about 11 days before you take a pregnancy test. If, during that time, you get your period, it wasn't ovulation.

Ovulation takes place almost exactly 14 days before you get your preiod (or don't get your period :-))

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschel. This will help you to understand all about ovulation. The short answer, the 1st part of your cycle, between period and ovulation can fluctuate depending on many factors. But, between ovulation and your period, it is normally 12-16 days.

any changes in your life, icluding spending too much time with a woman who´s on the pill can cause period irregularities, there is a necessary time span between your period and your ovulation, but between that and having your period again there is no constant. I had my period once three times in a month and a half because i was with other women who were taking the pill and that changed my whole system. No matter what doctors say, it is contagious

That could have well been implantation bleeding. If it was and you are pregnant....it is WAY too early for a pregnancy test to start picking up the HCG hormone.

I know that tests say they can detect as early as 5 days before your period is due.....but most women won't produce enough HCG to obtain a positive with until one or two days before your period is due. Some won't until even after their period was supposed to come..

Hang in there...........
I wish you luck!

yes it is possible. Go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating.

Implantation Bleeding:
Implantation bleeding can be one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms. About 6-12 days after conception, the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. Some women will experience spotting as well as some cramping.

Other Explanations: Actual menstruation, altered menstruation, changes in birth control pill, infection, or abrasion from intercourse.

Re-take a pregnancy test even if you started your period. Take the test when you first wake up or go to the doctor and have a blood test done.

Good luck

It is possible to ovulate late. But keep in mind, if it was implantation bleeding, there's probably not enough hormone in your urine to get a positive test result yet. Wait a week and try it again.
