When you say boys, do you mean pre-teen to teenagers?
Nice boys 10 -13 like a cool girl, popular by other girls standards, and capable of being a friend and confidant. Girls who try to hard to be super pretty, super stylish, and miss Cover girl, usually intimidate the nice guys (most guys in general) Cute almost always wins out over the super hot fashion queen. The smart / nice boys actually are interested in understanding girls. They think its cool to have a girl that is a friend, or better yet, a girl they can call a "girlfriend".
Once they learn about sex and feel they are up to the task. They like girls that are breathing, not gross, and who they may have a shot with, especially to second base. They still look for the same things they did before, but they look at it all a little differently. They can still be your friend, they can still be pals, but somewhere in the back of their mind they are wondering what intimacy would be like.
Looks, style, structure, mean nothing to most boys. They learn that from watching girls interact and compete with each other. As they get older, they form their own opinions about what "sexy" is, but approachable, sweet, intelligent and cute, usually wins the most hearts.
