Your friend sounds like a nice guy. I wonder if his mom thinks about him? If she wants good things for him?. . . . . maybe she isn't capable of caring providing Pat what he needs but it doesn't mean she doesn't want every good thing for him in life.

It's not always as important who loves you as it is that you are loved. Your friend is fortunate to have so many people who love and support him.

You can best help your friend by continuing to love and encourage him. Make sure you maintain your friendship after graduation.

He's gotta realize he can't change anyone but himself. He is doing a great job of it all. If he starts tryng to take care of people that is the beginning to the end for them. He would be an enabler, so as much as he wants their approval, he can only change his self, maybe with help from his friends.
Ask him what he would like to do now. If he doesn't have a career, help him go to the nearby library, and look at books on various careers. There is a great one that covers pay ranges for a certain profession, and the requirements.
Good luck!

Is there no way that he's able to contact his mom?....or dad?
Apparantly 'lots of people' cannot fill his void. If only someone would be able to let his mom know of his accomplishments. And she in turn could acknowledge him. That would certainly the very best that anyone would be able to do for him.
