This has nothing to do with personal safety. If you want to risk your life for a quick thrill, be my guest. Just don't do it around me or my family or anyone else that never asked to be involved. Show some ******* regard for human life and stay off the road.

Because they are idiots.

Because they are so busy concentrating on "having fun" that they don't think about the grieving families that will be left behind when both cars come flying around a curve and hit someone head on. I know a family who lost a son this way... and he wasn't involved in the racing. He had gone to the grocery store to pick up something for dinner... but never came home.

Because there are no legal street races to go to.

This has been a question sine the 1950's, and people have always said why not make a track so they could race and not get in trouble by the law.

The reply was that no one wanted to take the liability of that.

traditionally street races were on streets with a line of factories on it where there would be no one around at night but, racers. it took skill & know how to get your car able to run the street.. it was all about the racing. you drove respectful until you hit the "strip". maybe a couple of light'um'ups here & there & slides but, we all knew how to handle cars back then, so it was controled & nice to see. the chantings of "light'um'up & "it won't run" come to mind as well as "moth balls in the gas tank".

kids now days can buy a fast car & take it to a shop to make faster. its just too easy. kids now days have less respect for authority so they don't care if they are racing close to others or not, they think that they can handle it . they just want to show off...its really not even about the race more to show off their car. kids now days aren't as skilled as previous racers in handling their cars but think that they might be since they have a better performing car.

i belive that you should not be able to drive a car unless you have an IQ over 100 minimum.... i mean who likes dumb drivers?

hope this helps,

SS

As a person that loves to race, I wouln't necessariy call them (and myself) idiots, especially those of us that go out of our way to avoid endangering the public. I pick and choose when and where I race, and never do it in busy areas. There are some show-offs that have little regard for public safety and will endanger the public, and perhaps those are the "idiots" you are referring to.

As far as personal safety, thats another matter. I would rather live free to decide for myself whether to be safe or reckless, and not have the meek few such as yourself ridicule me into submission. A healthy F.U. is spoken to those law-makers who are slowly chipping away at our freedom as adult citizens as they create laws restricting our rights in the name of safety. Friggin Safety Nazi *******.

As for the person that asked this question, and all those that agree with his point of view, you're all wussies. We "idiots" salute you with a highly held middle finger, and suggest you all go make love to yourselves.

Because it's free and they can do it on any empty streets, without giving any concerns about costly safety issues to worry about.

Partly because they're not certified to be a real racer, therefore they settle for second best.

Because the idiot civil workers won't help provide the proper race tracks to do so.

Because they are idiots -- you answered your own question. Street car races are illegal, of course, because they are very dangerous and unsupervised on top of it.
