That is not true about not gaining anything from doing good deeds, we just don't get material rewards(usually). If we do something good for someone , we usually feel a sense of accomplishment and we're proud of ourselves for helping someone out.

When you do good deeds to others, you cannot expect anything in return. From helping an elderly woman cross the street, to giving your bus seat voluntarily to the person who is handicapped, a good deed is a form of social justice. You don't give money, but you the fact that you make another person's life a little better does ALL the difference. If everyone did good deeds, the entire World would be a better place to live in. So, my recommendation to you is to ask yourself the following question: When I do a good deed, what do I want to achieve? Consider that when you do a good deed, you are helping other people expecting nothing in return. . .and, you know, people like that. They appreciate and even will listen to you more. With so many horror stories happening in our Nation and around the world, a good deed is like a drink of fresh, pure water. It's all good. Good luck to you.

If you do a good deed with the intention of gaining something from it, it's not a good deed at all. It is selfish and self serving. A good deed or a gift is given out of generosity and benevolence, and a deed done or something given with strings attached is a setup and a trap. It is an expectation and a premeditated resentment. If you want to know how it feels to truly do something out of love and concern for another, then give of yourself, and ask nothing in return, even to the extent of not need to get credit for it. There is no way to describe the love you can gain for others and for yourself by doing this. The real heros in teh world are those who do not seek acknowledgement for their deeds. I think that the most common form of this is a mother. She mst sacrifice her entire identity for another being. Mothers are teh ultimate heros in this world. Without them, we would not be alive. Happy mother's day MOM!

If you are expecting to gain something from it, it is not really a good deed, in my opinion. If I help someone I do it out of the goodness of my heart, I don't do it for "future profit".

Maybe you are confusing the term "good deed" with a "favor"? If I do you a favor, I expect a favor in return someday.

If I loan you a dollar, I expect it back. That is not a good deed, its a loan.

If i open a door for a lady, I do not expect anything in return. Thats a good deed, albeit a small one.

But we do gain something from it. Sometimes it is just the knowledge of knowing that you did the good deed and other times it is getting more. everything that you put out into the universe, good or bad, comes back to you in some form.
