It really depends on the genre that you prefer.
The greatest love song in my opinion is " I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton and sung by so many including Whitney Houston.
As for all around greatest song... that would the Mozart's tune to the sound well known as " Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star:!

or

I think American Pie by Don Mclean,was right up there,the song didnt make sence to me, untill I found out the meaning on yahoo answers.But there are so many good songwriters out there ,It`s hard to pick just one.

"Stairway" is the obvious answer, but the song "Dreaming" by Blondie does it for me... "dreaming is free"!
