hello, i haven't seen anyone tell you how to take the startup programs off that are slowing you down. Click on Run, type "regedit", and then enter. Then choose My Computer on the left pane, click File Export, give the file a name, and select a location to store it, i put it on a CD-RW. There is a registry back up that Windows does automatically when you make a system restore point (I would suggest doing this also before editing your registry), but i always say better safe than sorry! You can stop services from automatically loading at startup. I hope this helps you!!

The best hardware solutions are:
1) upgrade your hard drive to 7200 RPM one,
2) Increase your ram to atleast 512 MB
3) Upgrade your Processor with suitable Motherboard,
4) Enable DMA (Direct Memory ACCESS)

The software tweaks can be found at the link below:

CAVEATS: more ram always speeds things up, try to keep at least 20% of hdd free for extreme mem intensive apps ie: google earth

clear browser(s) cache, history, then do START SETTINGS TASKBAR/START MENU, go one tab right, towards bottom is a lil garbage can with clear button, that clears onboard L2 and psuedo ram from disk.
then go into harddrive and find the folder your os lives in, find the temp files, delete em all.

then go to properties for your drive(s), do disk cleanup,
do scan/check disk for errors

defrag the thing

the more shortcuts on desktop and in start menu the more of limitted ram UB eating up.

First of all it depends on your windows.
if it's other than windows 2000 then do these steps.

GOTO > run > msconfig > startup> remove all you that you don't need> restart.
it should get rid of all the softwares that START and run in background with computer. unchecking entries from this does not uninstall them from computer, just stop them from starting WITH computer. you can use all the softwares like normal.

Take a few programs off of the startup list... like only the ones you don't need on the startup like norton and your firewall. That should take up less physical memory on start up, and certainly speed things up a bit.

It depends. If it's old, buy a new computer. If it's new, you may have spyware or a virus. Scan your computer.
