Some countries have flags for the reasons listed above, Others have flags because when the English were attempting to rule the planet, if they came across people without a flag, they are obviously not a country. So they were colonized by England.
Actually, it is 1/2 truth 1/2 Joke. But if you look at the flags around the world, allot have striking similarities to England's flag.

Nation building is the process of having everyone believing in the same ideology. Such as Eritrea breaking off from Ethiopia. The people there believed that Ethiopia could not properly represent them so they rallied around the idea of a separate nation and broke off. A flag is the tip of the iceberg in representing what that nation stands for. Some people don't have a flag such as some native american tribes, but they always did have a political system, political ideology and societal norms that separated them from other tribes. So respecting a flag is an odd thing. It's inanimate and represents an ideology, but it's not the ideology.

Like the United states has red , white , Blue and 13 stripes , 50 stars . The stars represent the 50 states that make up our country and the stripes represent the 13 original colonies that begin our nation . The flag is a symbol. It is also the focus of the nation for which it is representative. Each nation feels itself to be unique (as well it is) therefore a symbol is required to demonstrate the uniqueness of that nation. In times past FAMILIES would have individual shields with a serious of symbols identifying the uniqueness of a particular family. Initially the shield would depict the occupation of the family i.e. leathersmiths, gunsmiths, waterbearers etc. The flags of nations also include the course set by the nations leadership or a depiction of who and what that nation is or did. It's ok to have your own family flag also. Be well.

To mark their territories. It was developed many thousands of years ago. It was to show the others that the place the flag was hung was occupied by the country which the flag belonged to.

flag is a represent of a country. why we sould respect it is because a flag represent an existence of a country. or maybe for the reason of simplicity. if a country don't have a flag to raise it's people hand on it, then it will be quite difficult to show one's respect to the country. like .. they have to kiss the ground? and what if they on other country? like the world cup or olympic games? what shall they bring as a represent of their country?

Good question. They have names which is identity enough. I mean some flags look alike anyways. I guess just so you have something to look at and be proud of as a symbol of your nation.

Why do humans have names? Why do we name things? Flags are markers that are existant so we can define our territory, in other words, a flag represents our territory. Flags are what defines where you come from.
