People have boring lives. Why else would we spend our nights in front of TVs and computers? Celebs have fun lives. We wish we could be them. Obsessing over them means we can live vicariously through them.

Coz everyone desires to be famous, have those currency flying in their pockets, n people running behind them!
And celebs have that!!
Isn't that a reason good enough for you to understand why do people idolise them?????

I guess it's because they're so "publicly visible". They have a lifestyle we can only imagine, and more money than most of us will ever see. They are considered the "beautiful" people, which in the USA is kinda akin to royalty. A lot of people are fascinated by that because they think it is something they are missing themselves.
You are right....they ARE just people. I certainly don't idolize them. They have a lot more problems then I do. Most of them are spoiled, flakey, unstable in their relationships and think they can get away with anything just because they're "special". If they pass those attitudes on, their kids are really going to be screwed up.

Humans are weird. Pick anything in the world, and there's probably someone somewhere who obsesses over it. I guess ppl just think celebrities have cooler lives than most of us do, even though in reality most of us would prolly get sick of flying to this shindig or that every other day. I'd think that lifestyle would wear you out pretty fast, actually. Especially when some idiot wants to know stupid stuff like what brand of toilet paper you use or something, heh.

It's more of the fault of the media. Having portraying "celebrities" as something better than we are, adn thus, like the majority of human beings, have nothing better to do than to envy someoen else rather than envy themselves. Time to grow up and move on people! Envying is pointless.
