Coming from an Italian-Catholic family, i was never baptized. I am not religious, to say the least. my beliefs have nothing to do with my mom raising me. i am a self proclaimed agnostic. It's not that religious people are stupid. it's lack of being open minded. it's being closed minded, think their opinion's are the only ones that matter, the fanatics. i respect others religions and what they believe in, and how they choose to live, but a lot seem to down the fact that the belief is not their god/gods

We do not know why you are linking only religion with stupidity as if all stupid people are religious and all religious people are stupid. and all the rest in the world are wise people.
What is the parameter of stupidity is not clear.
Also why do you bring poor mothers into picture.So the entire family is being categoruised as a family of stupid people.
In short you seem to be SOLOMON WHO HAS COME TO DELIVER JUDGEMENT.
I however agree with you that there are various beliefs and customary practices followed by religious and non religious people out of customs in vogue.These are time immemorial in practise but so far it is personal and followed by them one need not attache much importance if that gives them some confidence
and strength .
In my view you must some how develop some tolerance power to bear up and put up with sucg people, i mean, those who practise such customs and not get irritated since such irritation would in turn affect your HEART.In any case keep a distance with such people if you want but never try to wound the feelings of others.Also dont get married to any such persons whose practices are irritable to you since it wound make you to have an irritable colon.
Those so called STUPID people are too many in this world and few of WISE people like you must therefore learn to live with them if you are not to get into hypertension over a period of time

I don't believe that all religious people are stupid, just as I don't believe that all white people are stupid. I don't believe in God, but I do know some extremely intelligent people who happen to have a great deal more faith than I do, and they therefore believe! I sometimes wish that I had their faith, but I'm not holding out faith or hope in anything about which I have no idea. And I won't be so presumptuous as to state it for a fact, because even if God exists, no one WILL EVER KNOW until they die!! And I'm not here long enough to waste my own personal time wondering!!
