You don't have to be a certain number of weeks. You can get one done as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test.
You do have to be under so many weeks though. That depends on the state and the Dr. performing it.

I think it's 12 weeks in the state where I live. You could call the local planned parenthood clinics, and they could give you more information on what is legal in your particular state.
They can also counsel you, if you are certain that you want to terminate your pregnancy then the earlier in the pregnancy, the better it will be for your own health.
Please look into some birth control methods that are more certain, or do not have sex unless the man wears a condom in the future, besides avoiding another pregnancy you may save your life if you keep yoursellf from catching a disease. Ok I admit it I own Trojan stock, and I always tell people to wear condoms. (just kidding...about the stock, but not kidding about the diseases you could catch from the transfer of bodily fluids). Sex is great, but I don't think you should risk your life just because the man in your life doesn't like to wear condoms. It's not going to be much comfort to you when you have HIV and die a slow and painful death, or have herpes or Hepatitis C...(none of these diseases can be cured)...all are transmitted by sexual contact. So when I say "make him wear a glove for his love" I am trying to save your life!
Whatever you choose to do, good luck. In some states if your pregnancy has progressed beyond the point of having an abortion, you could look into letting the baby go for adoption, there are many people who would love to have a baby. If you find a good adoption agency, they may even help you pay some of your medical expenses. Don't stress, there are all kinds of solutions, you are not alone in your predicament. Go talk to the people at a women's clinic, and they will give you all of the details, and counsel you on all of the options.

The abortion clinic has to be able to see where the zygote is attached to your womb during an ultrasound. So, even if you find out that you're pregnant only a week after conception, you may have to wait a few weeks for them to see it.
That being said, this information is not IN ANY WAY condoning or encouraging an abortion.

I've had 6 pregnancies, 4 of those have ended in miscarriage.. I've seen the past 5 pregnancies on ultrasound beginning at 5-6 weeks... every pregnancy we've confirmed beating hearts around 6- 6 1/2 weeks (aside from my ectopic) and around 9-10 weeks we could see them squirming around in there! A lot of abortion clinics won't tell you these stages of development... also, if you're considering this, please consider adoption first.. there are so many loving couples who have gone through so much to have children of their own and they just can't, adoption is their only hope.

You can be anyway from conception to 37 weeks pregnant and still receive an abortion. The soon the better though as this decrease the discomfort associated with the medically induced dilation of your cervix.

I know you can have an abortion up to the full 40 weeks! But honestly??, why? You have already carried that baby the full term why not give it up for adoption! (The better choice!)
I think you have to be after 10 weeks, but please note that your little one does have a heart beat by 8 weeks!
Good Luck and I hope you make the right decision!

Partial Birth abortions are done from the second trimester on: 17 weeks and beyond... most Doctors won't do it though this describes what it is if you don't know http://members.aol.com/abtrbng/pbal.htm
It is best to do it prior to that if you need to. Please consider other options though. There are many.

Please consider other options!!!!!!!! I saw my baby's heartbeat at 6 weeks before I miscarried and it's amazing to see the little one alive inside of you so small. There are so many who would love to raise your baby if you would please think about adoption instead. Also, just take a minute to think about the emotional effect this is going to have on you, maybe not now, but in the future it will not be easy to deal with. A baby is such a blessing!!! If not to you, you will make someone else's life so wonderful!!! I promise you that!

Have you heard-even up to 40 weeks-the partial birth abortion, but I'm sure they would take you whenever they could get you.

I really hope that you are not going to have an abortion. Theres other ways if you cant take care of the baby, giving the baby up for adoption for example. Please look at other options.
