Just as there are many kinds of people, so there are many kinds of Christians. Most Christians do truly love and accept everyone, however, many others despite Christ's teaching of love and respect for others, do not.

At this point in time, the Roman church is fighting an uphill battle for it's past sins of institutionalized child abuse and pederasty. And as a result, Homosexuals are unjustly being made the scapegoats.

There are those ministers and preachers who being totally ignorant or misinformed regarding homosexuality, spout vile nonsense and hate from their pulpits. "Love the sinner but hate the sin" is one of their favorite cliches. Their congregations then feel justified in hating other individuals' expressions of love and way of life, while at the same time professing "love" for the "sinner". Isn't this really hate being called love?

Some churches rail against what they perceive to be the evils of homosexuality while overlooking entirely heterosexual infidelity. And by some form of twisted reasoning, homosexuals are then made responsible for the erosion of "family values" - how so ever that is defined. Homosexuals do not break up families, heterosexuals do.

Ignorance, lack of understanding and intolerance on the part of many churches; together with a much too literal interpretation of the bible are the root causes of this dilemma.

I just basically answered this question, but that is the true hipocricy of the so-called Christians. True Christians know what they're talking about, so-called Christians just listen to whatever happens to be on the podium that week. Tammy Faye Messner is a wonderful example of a christian who disagrees with homosexuality and still supports homosexuals. At my church, they said "Love the sinner, hate the sin." They did not, I'm sorry to say, enforce that policy, which partially accounts for my present athiesm.

There's nothing wrong with them as people, it's just what they believe, and they have everyright to believe it no matter how unrealistic it seems to us. Most good Christians that believe that say something like "love the sinner, hate the sin," meaning they have nothing against you as a person, they just don't agree with gay sex, an you know what I can live with that because there are some things Christians do that I don't agree with. Its only a small, albeit vocal, minority of Christians that say things that we are "evil and we can burn in hell", and they don't bother me either because I know they're wrong and I refuse to give them power over me by letting them hurt me. Because the second you let their filth hurt you, you kinda let them win a little.

Christianity is odd. I think they mean well, and feel it is their job to call 'sin, sin'. But in doing so the message of God and love gets lost.

I don't understand why most christians would embrace a murderer before a homosexual. That buffudels my mind. In all honesty, I think christians are afraid.

Afraid that the love that homosexuals have may be a pure love. That two people of the same gender may want to spend their lives with one another. Just as the God asks.

Do I think God cares if people are gay/lesbian? Not in the sense that christians do. I think He is a God of love. And if you are in a loving relationship and respect and up hold that person, all that love stuff...God's cool with it.

Christians are afraid, people who are afraid attack.

We hear this kind of trash on Answers all the time....the gay bashing and such. It DOES get old. Part of Christianity is to witness and spread the Gospel. Great! Fine! But what I tend to have a problem with is HOW they do this. Instead of presenting it to someone in a non-offensive way it's all HELL FIRE AND DAMNNATION!!!! Wow....now THAT's an appealing way to get ANYONE to even consider God, huh? (That was sarcasm by the way! LOL!) I grew up in strong Southern Baptist roots. I was saved when I was nine years old. I'm a lesbian!!!! I know where I come from and I know what I believe. I refuse to shove my beliefs down anyone's throat, though. If they want to know I'll discuss it in a respectful manner.

Christians are bigots and will say anything to further their cause to get the government to give them what they want.( As does the govenment to get the Christian vote),to try to get people to conform to their beliefs. though I'm not homosexual it's their perogitive as long as it's not flaunted(two gay men or women all over eachother is disgusting). They should definently not marry. A persons sexuality should be their bussiness, not everyone elses just as is what I or anyone else does in privacy. It's just two guys sharing an apartment(easier to think of it like that), just like two girls. Then again two people of the same sex sharing an apartment doesn't mean they're homosexual either.

Amen to that- but first off, not ALL Christians are that narrow-minded I'm sure, but I can see the point you are getting at. The hypocracy between what they preach and how they act bothers me as well. I really don't see how who other people date has any effect on their lives.. Since when do 'good Christian values' call for discriminating against someone for loving? I just hope their ignorance ends soon.

Sui,

Love and acceptance perhaps means something different then what you believe it to be. Jesus, the Prophet to the Jew exhorted them to love each other while severely criticizing their religious leadership for being anti-love. Do you know that at the time Jesus was teaching, Jewish women were still considered to be possessions and not allowed into the Temple? After Jesus left, his followers gave women total equality which caused a lot of consternation amongst the Jewish populous. By the way, it was Peter, not Paul who gave gentiles equality by faith.

Not all Christians are like that. I admit, a lot are. My mother, for one. She freaks out whenever she sees a gay or lesbian couple together and I was surprised when she didn't completely wig out when my brother told them, meaning my parents, he is gay.

I myself am a Catholic along with my family and I don't condemn homosexuals or bisexuals. If I did, I'd be a hypocrite. I accept how people are and I don't love them any less or hate them any more for who they are. Besides, if I did condemn anyone for being gay, lesbian or bi, I'd be condemning myself and my brother. My brother, like I said, is gay and I'm bi, so I can't and won't shoot people down for who they are.

I won't make excuses for my fellow Christians and Catholics and their actions, but I will say this: I don't agree with them. If they condemn people because of who they love or who they sleep with, than they are no more than shallow fuckwits who can't get their head out of their ass enough to see daylight.

I hope this helps. If not, well, I'm glad you took the time to read my answer.

I really don't understand it when liberals preach tolerance and understanding yet continually spew hate toward Christians and non liberals.

I am a Christian and I don't pretend to accept or love anyone unconditionally, including other Christians, so what does that make me?
