its protien for the new mothers babies ...and she actually eats all of him not just the head

I believe it is just the Black Widow spider that eats the male after sex. Most liberated female spiders just say," I'll call ya sometime", then move on to the next unsuspecting male!!
However, the Black Widow works up an appetite and, as everbody knows, spiders are the other 'white' meat.

They don't 'eat', they inject venom, which disolves the males inaards and them suck them up leaving only a husk.
