Darn good question!
There are plenty of people who knew then what they know now, and deliberately chose to ignore it.
Rashness, contempt, and even sometimes blithe ignorance are, unfortunately, the hallmarks of youth.
Remember the wise words of Oscar Wilde: "Youth is wasted on the young."

Of course, we would be smartest. If I would know what are the consequences of smoking when I started, I wouldn't tried at first. There are many other things that we know now that we didn't know before and they made us to look less smart than others.

Maybe not smarter, per se, just living life a little differently.

If we had known then, we wouldn't had made a mistake. If we hadn't made that mistake, we wouldn't have learnt. If we hadn't learnt, we wouldn't be any wiser now. If we weren't any wiser now, we would make now the mistakes we actually made then. So, I'm glad I made my mistakes then, not now.
