Half the time, people vote on a person just because they are following the same religion as they are, which has nothing to do with the main key issues that can help our country. Why is that people only vote based on 2 things, such as "abortion" and "the death penalty" when its not relevant to the key issues thats been talked about?
What purpose does politics serve, if all of the country's decisions are soley based on religion, when our country is based mainly on the economy and money and business, and profit, etc, which really has nothing to do with religion. Same with the key problematic issues our enviroment. What gives? People will believe in something that is not physicall present, but they wont believe in enivronmental problems thats physical and creating problems as I speak right in their faces, and tehy deny the fact that there is no such thing as Global warming or oil shortages..

I think some people vote with their religion because if they are truly religious, their religion gives them the values they believe in. You are generalizing in saying that 'most people' vote according to abortion and the death penalty. Some people do because they feel they are important topics in their lives. Some people vote according to their economic interests because that is important to them. Some people vote according to their environmental beliefs, because that is important to them. A person's beliefs, whether they are religious or otherwise, make up who they are. Perhaps that's why people sometimes use their religion as a base for their voting habits.

Religions seems to be the underlying theme to this entire country. Why did immigrants come to America? To escape religious persecution. People place a lot of importance on their religion and therefore, make decisions in their life based on their religion. This is especially confusing and difficult when you consider so many religions believe that so many other religions are wrong. Catholics and Protestants in Ireland, need I say more? Throughout the history of the world, many people have died for their religion, killed for their religion, condemned others based on their religion, and so on. So when it comes down to it (i'll stop rambling now), people vote according to their religion because they feel if they do, that person will share the same views and themselves, and therefore will have their best intentions at heart. For example, a Catholic voting for another Catholic would never dream that the politition would be in support of abortion.

Most people vote for the person who's belief's closely match their own and who cares about the things they care about. For people who's religion is important in their lives, that simply translates into what candidate they vote for. No one votes for someone who's ideas are wrong to them. In my life money is not terribly important, religion is. Therefore I will vote for the candidate who feels the same way I do. All people do this no matter what is important to them. If you believe in fidelity will you vote for a president that is unfaithful to his wife? If you were apposed to war would you vote for a candidate who wanted to invade another country? No. Religious issues such as abortion and the death penalty are the same. People vote for those who they think are right bottom line.

Americans vote on who will represent them on the issues. Some see the abortion and death penalty issues as the major issues of today. It's only reasonable that they vote for like minded representatives. It's also only reasonable that a religious follower vote in line with what their religion teaches. If they didn't, they would be hypocrites...saying abortion is wrong on Sunday, but voting for someone to keep it legal on Tuesday.

Is it fair for you to tell them that their opinion of what the major issue today is not valid? Or at least not as valid as yours?

People now a days have been brainwashed by this government, media, pastors, teacher, etc.. When it comes to government, religion should not be included. But we must keep in mind that this is a Christian-Judea society and the laws will reflect those beliefs.

Fear. Simple fear. Most people have not evolved past the days of huddling together in a cave and believing that the "Great Sky God" is punishing them. It is much easier for them to ignore the real problems of the world and live in their sheltered little fantasy worlds.

It is their morals and beliefs. I have no room to talk because I don't vote. I may have been drinking that day. You make a good point though.

I don't believe there is human caused global warming and we have lots of oil like shale oil, and tar sand, and coal. Why do I vote for people because they agree with my belief? why would I vote for someone because they don't agree with my beliefs.

Most of the time, people with the same religious conviction as me also share political convictions as well.
