The deepest canyon in the world is the Valley of the Volcanoes, in Arequipa Peru, just beyond the Colca Canyon and the Cotahuasi Canyon.
Recent explorations (1999-2000) have surmised--nothing yet definitive--that this canyon is deeper than any in Peru or the rest of the world.
A canyon is forged by a river. Therefore the Mariana Trench is not a canyon because it is formed by sea activity.
