What's the big deal? It's just a word.
I'm American, and I'm perfectly aware that most of the rest of the world calls the sport football/futbol, and that it's far more popular elsewhere than in the U.S.
So Americans like different sports. So Americans have different words for things. Sweater/jumper, vacation/holiday, there are plenty of examples. It doesn't seem like something that deserves a lot of anger.

Yeah the sport is football and the Americans are too ignorant to call "soccer" football, the correct term. It's disappointing living in a country that call football the NFL where fat, gay, man lovers grabbing each other and running the ball 2 feet before needing a water break.

OK as England is the birth place of the beautiful game The name is FOOTBALL not FUTBALL, however the name soccer was also invented in england in the 1920's to differentiate from RUGBY FOOTBALL which has the same origins. Actually bit of trivia first international FOOTBALL game was actually a 3rd game between england and scotland the first 2 games having been played using what most people recognise as RUGBY rules.....
So in answer doesnt bother when they call it soccer as i laugh at there ignorance that they think they invented the name......love educating them of the fact......oh and the fact that Canada invented 3 of their other sports-- Baseball, basketball and Hockey

I'm american and i find the whole thing rather ironic. A sport that mostly involves throwing, catching, and running with a ball in your hands is called "football". Only for kickoffs and field goals/extra point does the "football" actually come in contact with a foot!
And the sport we call "soccer" involves kicking and passing a ball with your feet! Hands aren't even allowed (with the exception of goalies!)
I guess we just don't want to confuse anyone...LOL!

If you want to know what the "true" word for something is, you look at the word used by the people that invented it... the game was invented in England, where it's called "football". Therefore, the "true" name (for what it's worth) is football, or a translation of the word football (fussball, futbol, etc...).

I just hate the whole sport field of all the games that include sweat, training, competition, and most of all they take up all of the weekend television time.
I just hate that. Don't you agree with me? Sports are not sports any more. They are business arrangements made between managers of uneducated Neanderthals who have the morals of alley cats.
Sports are not sporty anymore.

Americans do understand that everywhere else it is called "football," but we have our own type of football, so to avoid confusion, we call it soccer.
Also, why are you complaining? You choose to live in the US, so you have to adapt to the culture.
