A swaybacked horse is a horse with a sway in its back. Instead of having a normal topline, the spine curves downward, sort of "sagging". I don't know about hard work causing this, but it is definitely an issue in older horses. As a horse ages, the muscles in the back sort of relax and expand, which causes that swayback look. This typically happens in horses over 20 yrs of age. It is very obvious and you can easily tell the difference in a swaybacked and a normal horse.

a swayback horse is a hourse that has a cruvier, more curcular, back. Usually, horses have a slightly curved back, but a swayback has a curvier back. Swayback horses require a riser pad to be put under the saddle so the saddle is streight and flat on the back and it is not angling upward.

I have been told that a swayback horse, is one that has been ridden alot and not really taken care of. If you have a ever seen a horse that looks like it has a dent in the middle of it's back. Then you have seen a swayback.

Swaybackeds are more common in older horses. They get "swayedbacks" because of hard riding or a mare (a female horse) having had many babies.

A sway back is a horse that has been ridden to early or to hard. The spine "sways" to make them look like they have had a broken spine. The belly is really low and the rest of the animal looks fine. It is abuse to say the least!

a swaybacked horse is a mare(a mother horse) who is old and has had many babies. your best bet is to look for a horse that is between 7yrs. and 12yrs old that would be good for a beginner. watchout for horse brokers.
