I live in Vegas so it's REALLY hot right now. I came home and my air conditioner was not working. Does my apartment complex have to fix the problem if it is stated in their advertisements that they have it and it was working when I moved in?

Check your rental agreement. Does it say he has to supply it? If so, he has to fix it.

Otherwise, all he's legally required to provide is heat, running water, hot water, electricity, and anything pertaining to gas.

Here's how to handle it if it's in the rental agreement:

Check your lease. The apartments here is SC have maintanence that comes with the apartment. Some even have 24 hour service. Have they told you why they are not fixing it? Have they even looked at the air conditioner unit? Is the part that will fix it unavailable? If it is not being fixed just because of laziness and not because of a part that is unavailable I would call the Better Business Bureau and find out what you can do. If they cannot help you then maybe they can steer you in the right direction. Good luck!!!!

You said it is stated in their advertisement that they have air conditioning.

You do not have air conditioning, so YES they must fix it. Call the housing authority if they refuse. You must give them reasonable time to fix it. It is not a middle of the night emergancy type repair.

Well simply any problems that the Apartment complex has the complex owner is supposed to fix whatever it is.... basicly you pay the rent and in return they fix any mechanical probs like the AC is that what you were looking for?

Yes they have to repair it, but they take their time. You have to report it management and a work order has to be filled out for maintenance to come fix the problem. You can buy yourself a refrigerated window unit for about 100 to 200 dollars depending on the btu's and install it in a couple of hours. A small price to pay for living in hell.

Mel, In every rental agreement with a reputable firm there is a listing of repairs covered by the Rentee and the Renter, which I bet means you will fix it, but go look your contact up just to make sure.

It's probably only illegal in Alaska, I suspect the reverse is true for heating. Honestly , yes, they should have to fix it but it probably isn't considered an emergency like lack of water, or heat in the winter.

yes, there is something called the renters rights out there. if nothing is done to fix it in 48 hours, they might have others to fix already, then you can report them to what ever agency there regulates their permits.
