As a comic myself, I feel your pain. Basically, all these shows are about ratings. Taylor Hicks, the recent Idol winner, was making a modest living singing but was still a nobody. In the comedy world, many comics may have been on one of the hundreds of shows out there doing a 3-minute set but still haven't "made it." At least at a Richard Pryor/Robin Williams/Jerry Seinfeld level-as Kathy Griffin might say, they are on the D-list, or below, so this is the opportunity to put them there. It doesn't help those of us which much less stage time; however they are wanting comics w/ solid sets and material which really takes for most weekly or nightly stagetime to hone. Besides, comedians get no respect!:)

A "professional" is anyone who makes a living at what they do. I was a professional singer, but far from famous. These people are professionals, meaning they get paid to do standup comedy, but they are hardly famous. Shows such as Last Comic Standing give them a shot at true fame.

Good question. On last comic standing I thought I saw some people who are already comics. I thought that was odd.

i have wondered a similar component, i spotted really some human beings on there who've been on VH1 a million situations. i do not imagine it truly is totally honest to the different comedians who're unknown and deserve a extra effectual chance.

Wonderful question. I was wondering the same thing myself. I don't think it is fair at all.
