That depends on what you mean by factory settings, if you mean completely re-installing the original operating system completely, then yes, it will erase all your files when it reformats the hard drive before installing the original software. But on some PC's you can do a minor repair using a recovery cd and it will leave most of your files and info intact.

I dont think so they will erase your pic/music. Factory setting are default set-up of softwares & applications. But still wait for some sure & better answers to your question.

That depends on the manufacturer. Dell, for example, will repartition the disk which is completely destructive to your personal documents.

Backup your data before you perform any major system change anyway because it is not unheard of that a configuration change makes a system unusable.

save them to a file or just my documents or my music and if its not just a standard restore operation then save all files onto a formatted disk like out of a-drive or the disk writer have fun

Most factory settings only affect OS, and not apps. To be safe back it up, offload it, whatever first, then reset.
