Only India can answer that question. If China could send one of its best to Japan/Korea in 2002, Australia to Germany in 2006, so could India in 2010. It's just that soccer isn't as popular as other sports in India i.e. cricket. I do hope to see an Indian national soccer team's debute in the upcoming World Cup 2010 in S. Africa.

Do you kidding? INDIA win just 1-0 with SRI LANKA in 2005, and SRI LANKA loose 0-2 with my Country, INDONESIA in 2005. INDIA only can qualify to FIFA WC 2006 if GUS HIDDINK is going to be the coach of INDIA.

India could qualify, but they'd have to improve immensly. From what I've seen of the standings in the qualifying rounds, India didn't fair too well.

Yeah, Gus Hiddink is well known for taking unknown teams and polished them so well they made history in the World Cup.

He brought Holland to semifinal in 1998.
He brought South Korea to semifinal in 2002.
I certainly hope that he'll take Australia to at least semifinal this year!!!

Would they have a problem kicking a leather ball? I know that not everyone in India is Hindu, but don't Hindus hold cows to be sacred?

Does it have a soccer team? silly me-must have based on your question. Any countries team can qualify if they meet the requirements-even Iran made it-not based on politics but soccer skill as it should.
