I saw my friend do this about two years ago to a softball tee shirt. She had taken it and cut up both sides so that the shirt was now a front and a back piece. Then she had cut inward and was tying the sides together to make a shirt. I really want to do it cuz I want to make a shirt for 21st bday when I go out partying. I tried to look it up online using "side tie shirt" but all I got was a shirt that tied in the front on the side, not what I wanted at all! Please someone help! Thanks!

i did this today with my work shirt, actually, because it's an adult large and wayyyy too big for my frame! first off, i cut the neck off the shoulder and cut the sleeves off because i wanted a tank top. next, i cut the "strap" area on the tank top i created, and knotted those. then, i sliced down each side of the shirt, held the front and back of the shirt together, and then sliced down the side of the shirt horizontally, i think i ended up with six sets of strips on each side. after that, you simply tie them together.

TWO HUGELY IMPORTANT POINTS:
1.) do NOT tie the side ties without having the shirt on you, tie them once you put the shirt on or they won't be custom fitted to your body.
2.) do NOT cut the strips with scissors, use a knife. scissors make the cuts look jagged and crappy, knives cut the fabric in a way that rolls the fabric and doesn't make it look junky. Hope this helps!!

all you do is cut the side of the shirt up to the armpit . then you cut about 2in. inwards all the way to the bottom of the shirt. after you have done that on both sides you tie 2 of the string together all the way down. and ta-da you have your shirt. MAKE SURE YOUR SHIRT IS A FEW SIZES BIGGER THAN YOU ARE!!

yes, you take the shirt and cut it evenly along the seem on the sides and then you cut 1 and a half in. long slits about 1/2 an in apart all the way to the bottem and then tie them in nots. Depending on the shirt you might want to cut the sleeves and the bottem a little bit.

It SOUNDS simple enough.

Where is your friend, now? Ask her.

I have cut the arms off and the neck band and the bottom---talk about a comfortable shirt!!
