Could be many reasons. Could be they lied to get what they wanted. Could be you said it to soon and they felt trapped into saying it back. Could be they meant it when they said it then had second thoughts. Could be they don't really understand the meaning of the word, the true meaning. As long as you keep saying it and meaning what you say, things will work out in the end.

yes, it does hurt very much. Why they say it? I think that the reason is so they can get what they want out of you. Or, they were mistaken lust for love and later came to realize that it was not love. That does not mean that it doesn't hurt any less. It does hurt. I am sorry if this has happened to you. I have experienced that pain and it takes a long time to get over. Good luck to you hun!

Someone who says that and does not mean it is usually someone who will say whatever it takes to get what they want with no regard for your feelings.
Best thing to do is to never let those words affect you in a way where you do things you normally would not do.
Then if they are lying they will realize they will get nowhere and will stop messing with you,if on the other hand they are sincere, you not doing anything you do not want to will be respected.
Take comfort in knowing the players of the world have one thing to look forward to...someday they themselves will get played .
Good Luck :)

Honey, I've been asking myself that question for years--and it's not just the "I love you"s but all the other stuff I hear. The only thing I can figure is that when a guy says he loves you, he means it--at that very moment. Doesn't mean he'll feel that way 5 minutes from now.

I think people sometime say it to be nice or just to make you feel good at that moment until. I had boyfriends who said it but did not mean it. I know it hurts, even when they do mean it, they hurt some other way like cheating!

They mean exactly what they say, it just may not mean the same to them. Merely ask them to define it first. If you agree on what it is, then you decrease the chance of getting the "run over by a car" feeling.

"I love you" means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Quite often they "mean it" at the time but time passes. Sometimes it is just to get something out of someone else and sometimes its trying to make someone feel better about themselves. I love a lot of people but I rarely say it because I don't want to be misunderstood.

I does hurt and they say it to keep you happy. They like you and don't want to hurt your feelings but it will hurt your feelings in the long run if they keep it up and you fall in love with them. I would only say I love you if I truly mean it.

Maybe they don't know what to say and don't want to hurt your feelings when you say it, so they just say it back. Doesn't mean it's right for them to be that way, but if you know they don't love you, it's not fair to put them in that uncomfortable situation.

it is said because the word "love" is abused. It is just a word with no meaning whatsoever, the meaning comes into play when someone actually SHOWS you they love you. So for someone to say it and not mean it, is easy for them its just a word!
