click on your nickname, should take you to a page, soemwhere there it says "edit my info" click that it takes you to a page then somewhere there it says use my avatar and u click on that

Go to your yahoo answer home page,and you can create your look,and this will get rid of smiley,and give you your avatar.

Go to Avatars on the yahoo homepage and create one for yourself. For a real pic I think you have to upload it on your yahoo profile
