When I was in college I remember my professor emphasizing that the single thing one can do to improve a child's reading is to have that child read! This doesn't mean we can hand a 3 year-old a stack of books, have them only spend time with those books, and then all of a sudden the child can read perfectly. The child needs guidance along the way. A trumpet? Get some guidance (an instructor) and keep on playing!
