No. It just means to prepare yourself for anything and everything because we live in a world full of unpredictability. So, you may expect the unexpected only in preparedness , but the unexpected truly can't be expected. Hence: being unexpected...Was that the answer you expected, or was it unexpected???

Two way street. Yes it does, they will always go together because they were meant to be right from the day they were born and both from the same womb.
The unexpected is expected and the expected is unexpected cause you never know. What goes around, comes around.

Hmm. At first I said yes, but on careful consideration, I say no. Here's my reasoning:
You are expecting something unexpected.
However, something unexpected occurs that you could not have expected. You were expecting other unexpected events.
Thus you were not prepared for the actual unexpected event, even though you may have thought you were.

the unexpected is never expected. otherwise we'd call it the expected. it just means being prepared. people who expect the unexpected don't usually bat an eyelid at anything. they're pretty unflappable.
it doesn't mean they necessarily expect strange things, it just means they can figure out a response and reaction without it being a production.
talk to a chef or a tour organiser about expecting the unexpected :)

You are sliding around on the levels of meaning here. To expect means to look out for, basically, and hence to be prepared for a specific entity. The unexpected means something outside the usual occurance. Expecting the unexpected then means to look out for the unusual. Looking out for the unusual does not make the unusual usual. Expecting the unexpected merely means to be prepared for an unknown contingency, to be prepared to wing it, to improvise, etc.

its impossible to expect the unexpected because if you expect it then its not unexpected and so then you're not expecting the unexpected, you're expecting the expected, which is a lot less cool

it actually depends. ur expecting something un-expected, but u may not have anything specific in mind. for example. u have a gut feeling that the day isnt going 2 be normal. and, actually, on ur way 2 he library, or work or something like that, u see this guy running around screaming that the world is on fire in his underpants. now, it was un-expected, but thats not wut u thought would happen. now say u knew something was gonna be a way because u saw lets say, poll results before the oublic. u knew that the results were unexpected, but u knew before everyone else so u knew wut the un-expected thing was
