New Wave was watered down punk to make it palatable for the masses. A lot of crap but the Talking Heads turned it into an art form.
New Age covers a vast array of music that doesn't fit any other category. Usually characterized by electronic 'mood' music but can include just about anything.
P.S. - Musicians don't really care about these distinctions, its just for marketing people trying to stuff the latest trend down your throat.

I always thought New age music was spacey, kind of Enya type music. Stuff they used to play on The Wave endlessly years ago.
New wave music is more the alternative music that started emerging in the 80's and has continued thru today.

New Wave music can be described as Retro or 80's
New age is like Enya ....etc... along those lines
