I believe I've had a discussion about this before.

A smurf wouldnt turn colors if it was choking. Humans only turn blue when they are choking because deoxygenated blood is blue (as opposed to red, oxygen rich blood). Since smurfs already have a blue skin pigment, (assuming that they are mammals) their blood would also turn blue if they were choking. This would obviously produce no visible change in skin tone.

since smurfs dont exist and would only choke if someone drew it youd have to ask the creator id make it purple though
