Apparently certain brands switch manufacturers periodically. Please specify both brand and manufacturer, if known. Thanks.

The right answer is to try different brands until you find one that works best for you, then stick with it. Some generic brands work fine for some, others prefer name brands. The reason why some are more expensive than others has to do with the way they are made.

Top-brand companies start with new stamping mechanisms that give out the best quality discs. After a certain number of stampings when quality is at risk, they sell off what's left of the machine to other "generic" or Bottom-brand competitors who continue to use it until it spits out discs that aren't usable. That way, they can sell them for cheaper prices.

This process applies to both DVD and CD writeable media. You typically get what you pay for. I prefer Sony, Fujifilm, and Verbatim, but I'll use just about anything from time to time.

This questions, need more detail, do you mean cd-r as in rom disc, or do mean rom drive. If you mean drive, purposes of use would help, because, each has a +/-, not including costs. and are you running ATA, or ATX. A far as cirular flat plastic, just remember those 3 words, and the balance of you checking account, buy wisely. Brand means little or nothing. I have used all there is, and no one type, color, manufacturer, moon phase, astral phase and or production date means anything.

Well, through my experience, I have found that Memorex CD-Rs and RWs are excellent quality and they have been around for a long time. Since it is a brand name, each disc would cost 1 or 2 cents more than the store brands, though their disks are more dependable when it comes to burning data and storing them.

Funny, I have had the worst luck with Memorex. If I have a bad CD or DVD I know it will be Memorex.

The best is Verbatim and Sony is also good.

I am mad at Sony over their spy ware so all I use now is Verbatim
