NO the new rules for the NHL only applied in regular season the finals keep going into overtimes until there is a winner.the record for the longest game ever played was in Montreal on March 24, 1936. It was game one of the semifinal round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs between Detroit and Montreal. It ended when Detroit's Mud Bruneteau scored the game's only goal in the sixth overtime period after 176 minutes and 30 seconds of game play.

No ! No shutout in playoff. Let's the players play the game. I don't want to see Hurricanes won the Stanley cup because Ward made a safe on a Hemsky shot, just after Recchi score against Markanen. No ! Let's game go on !

No shootout in the finals; OT is awesome. The most intense sports situation there is.

no they don't use the shootout in the finals or the playoffs. they use the standard three periods and as many overtimes as needed at 20 minute intervals. i personally think the shoot out is stupid.

No way... the playoffs use sudden death overtime. They play until a goal is scored. They play 20 minute overtime periods, as many as needed. It's the best way! Go Oils!
